Not very much interior heat since 383 swap

Everything worked before the swap. But I should say things were quite modified to get the 383 with Edelbrock Pro Flo intake installed.

Now with hot coolant the best I can get out of the vents is slightly warm air.

I kept the heater bypass valve.

I am thinking perhaps I messed up a vacuum line connection. Whatever was there I kept though.

I did bypass the throttle body though. Maybe I routed the heater hoses wrong.

Here are a couple pictures. Maybe something pops out to someone?

Since the Edelbrock intake didn't have a port like the TPI that fed the throttle body, I put a nipple on the back of the water pump and fed the heater valve from there. Is that right?

Re: Not very much interior heat since 383 swap

I checked the vacuum, it is working correctly. The line going to the bypass valve has vacuum when the heat selector lever is in the COLD position, and no vacuum in the HOT position.

Could the valve itself be malfunctioning?

I still won't rule out wrongly plumbed heater lines.

The supply for the heater bypass valve comes off the back/top of the water pump since I don't have the TPI intake with the port in the cooling passage.

Re: Not very much interior heat since 383 swap

I don't believe the port on the water pump there is an 'outlet' or hot coolant. Normally coolant flows out the heads into the intake where we port off to the heater core. After the core, coolant goes to the radiator (or the port on the water pump for some older cars) where it dumps back in.
As my recollection goes though. Someone may correct this information.

I was actually wondering about that. I have looked up pictures of 1985 305 HO motors and they have a hose running from that port to one of the the heater core inlet/outlet, but then other hose runs to the intake manifold. Judging by that I would think the port is either a supply or return.

I had it plumbed like that on my 1985. To be honest I cannot recall how it did for heat though, lol.

So yeah, that was hot from intake, 'cold' returning back to pump.

I am going to change the hose to take off from the intake and plug the water pump port.
