Strange Behavior while in Diagnostics mode.
Hi everyone, I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place, I'm still very new to these form things but I'm getting desperate.. I have a series of issues with my 91 Camaro RS 3.1L V6 700R4 and I was wondering if I can get some help, advice or ideas. I have no other way of simplifying these issues. My apologies for the story time below 😂😶😰
It all started when me and my dad found the car in an in dirty old Akron alley way abandoned where it sat for about 12 years. It had Low milage with a clean body and interior. We got it cheap and even received the original title.. found out the reason it sat was mice got ahold of the main engine wire harness and the old man didn't want to fix it.
We replaced the harness with a 1991 Firebird 3.1 V6 donor. Cleaned out the tank and fuel lines. And replaced a few suspension components as we were under the car.
All but a few little odd plugs fell into place perfectly with the donor harness, it was in very good shape and didn't seem to have any rot or broken wiring. We figure the extra plugs were for options like cruise and what have you, knowing Firebirds often featured more tech options. But without hesitation The car fired right up for the first time in probably over a decade and it ran with only a slight quiver especially after warmed up. Vacuum is mostly to blame.
I eventually bought the car off my dad and drove it off and on thought out the week, after a year or so went on the car started bucking and hesitations became more frequent. When coming to a stop, the engine's rpms would stumble and if it didn't die, would recover to it's normal unusually high idle.. eventually I found the lower most intake manifold to have a large air leak, in which I replaced the gaskets and created a new seal on the front and back of the valley with gasket maker. The bucking and hesitations became less frequent but still occasionally occurred, I assume it's due to other vacuum leaks throughout the engine bay.. I replaced the evap around this time too
Before my final issue, the heater pipe inlet port and metal pipe tree beneath the upper radiator hose started leaking due to corrosion and I've been working on fixing that tho it's proving to be hard due to the limited years of product of such pipe.. (1990-92) apparently.. i can try to load pics if needed..
My final and most recent issue leaves the car near lifeless.. i decided to see if I could lower the idle speed one day from it's usual 1100 rpm idle where it was most stable, down to 750.. this caused the engine to stumble and die, upon resetting the idle to its original setting the engine refused to start, no life whatsoever. Eventually I found that I also lost my injectors and had a weak spark.
I decided to replace the ignition coil and adjust the distributor timing and the engine fired up. Ran good for about 15 minutes or so then started hesitating and stalled out after getting fresh gas. Now it refuses to start without dancing on the gas peddle before going lifeless all together for moments at a time.
While jumping the A+B pin in the ODB port, there is very loud ticking coming from either the evap thing (which I replaced a while back) or something else which I haven't yet tracked it down cuz it's inconsistent. Each time it clicks it prevents the diagnostics from displaying the morse code on the dash and im just at a loss.. it's almost like a bad computer or something, or maybe a bunch of issues causing catastrophe.. what should I do, where should I start??
I appreciate you all, and thx if you've got to the end of this post..
