Can't turn steering wheel at all?
Can't turn steering wheel at all?
I have a 85 z28 with a 383 stroker. I haven't driven the car in over 3 months, but went to drive it today and I couldn't even turn the steering wheel. Feels like it was locked or something. I checked the power steering fluid, and it's full. This just suddenly happened. I was able to turn the wheel about a month ago when I was bleeding brakes. Any ideas what it could be? I put in a new battery, idk if that messed with the security system or something?

Hmm, lower the steering column and see if the rods are turning with the key? I wonder if the lock in the column has gone funky. Unless there is physical interference with the shaft, I don't think the problem is in the engine bay if it was working before.

The steering wheel lock is completely mechanical, and doesn't rely upon the battery. The ignition lock cylinder turns a linkage to lower the lock pin from the steering shaft lock plate.
