1983 5.0 knock?
I bought a 1983 firebird trans am 5.0 5 speed to use as a winter car next year. Car is a rot box, and not worth saving. I have a super clean 88gta with 60,000 miles as my summer car.
i noticed the other day it sounds like the car has a very quiet knock. Doesn’t matter if it’s warm or cold, although seems more consistent when it’s warm. Although sometimes the noise can’t be hear when the car is cold or warm. I’m at a loss. Cut the filter open and no metal. Tried 10w40, no change. And it’s only really audible at idle-1400.
has a Gm goodwrench engine. Any thoughts?

Are you sure it is a rod knock? Remove all the belts and try running it again. If the noise is gone, it could be a power steering pump or AC compressor.

Not sure if it’s a knock, the ac and air pump have been deleted. I’ll try removing the belts

Add some Marvel Mystery Oil to the crankcase and run it.
