MSD Ignition location question (A/C related)

Hey guys,
I have an 83 Z28 w/ a 305 and a/c. I took out the A/C compressor, and acumulator tank. There's still that huge plastic piece on the firewall, and I'd like to know what's involved in taking that out to put a flat piece of metal on the firewall, and mounting the ignition box and coil there. I think the heater core is on the other side of the a/c box thing I'm talking about. I saw on one of those TNN shows last week that they did it, but I only caught the end of the show and missed how they did it and their web site didn't help me so much. I know they got rid of the a/c, but not sure if they kept the rest of the heating system or not (this is on their el camino-type project... the GMC version.) If anyone has either done this or knows what I'm talking about any help is appreciated. I think this would be a great spot for the MSD equipment because its so close to the distributor, and I can't find another spot big enough for all the stuff . Thanks guys!

best thing to do is remove ALL the AC related parts then get a heater/blower box for a non AC equiped car, unless you don't want a heater at all. the heater core isn't under the hood so you don't have to worry about that.

I do want to retain the use of the heater, the car is driven everyday so heater/defroster is a must. But what I was saying about the heater core, is that the firewall is sandwhiched between the heater core and the a/c box under the hood, so when I go to take off the a/c box, won't the heater core fall down in the passenger compartment? That's how my Chilton's book looks like in the picture but it's not so clear. Thank you for the quick response.
