Never had to deal with the one piece RMS before any tips to installing?
My engine is out and pan is off. I took off the rear seal retainer with the old seal still in it.
Can i just remove the old seal and tap in a new one and reinstall the retainer back onto the block?

I see people bang these in with a piece of 4" pvc pipe which would be ripe for a leak if not perfectly square I would think.
Any help is appreciated

DO NOT "tap in" a seal like that.

The PVC pipe thing is well and widely known to work well if used carefully. The "tap in" thing is 100% ironclad take-it-to-the-bank certain inexorable FAIL. You do the math.

Best way all-around is probably a LARGE vise and 2 5" or so squares of plywood. You could accomplish the same thing with plywood and some C-clamps, especially since you could watch it as you drive it in and make sure you tighten them in an order to make it go in straight.

I recommend installing all Seals of that type on a Press.

As already said...
Even a $100 Harbor Freight Press, and some clean wood cut-offs, would be better than Banging on the Seal.

Note: Do NOT over tighten those small diameter Fasteners for the RMS.

So the seal can be installed in it's retainer first then installed over the crank?
I read an archived thread that said someone had learned not do to it that way because it compressed the seal slightly and made it harder to get the seal started over the crank and they ended up ruining it. In his example he claimed it was easier to put the retainer on first, start the seal with a slight twist onto the crank, watching so it doesn't fold and then press the seal into the retainer.
This is a job I only wanna do once.
