Hello everyone, I was wondering if anybody has used this cam with stock 193 heads. I was initially thinking of going with a 1994 LT1 cam. Part of me wants a little more cam. I was going to use comp 981-16 springs. Do you think I would need to cut down the guide bosses.

Most are good for 0.500 with more than 0.050 additional, but it varies enough they should all be measured.

 

Ok thanks, how would I go about measuring it. Also do you think I would still make some decent power even with the 193 heads even in stock unported form. I know I probably would have to do some tuning. I was also thinking about taking a crack at some bowl blending as there is a big ridge under the seat

Should check/mock up your exact parts to be sure. Even well know combos can run into problems sometimes due to manufacturing differences or part changes. Sometimes the out of tolerances all stack up.

This fellow used to be a member here, though I think he mostly posts on YouTube these days. In the first half of this video he's talking about checking valve spring retainer-to-valve stem seal clearance at full lift. He's using Vortec heads, and LS spring dimensions, but the method should be valid for any SBC head.

You'll need to know your max lift numbers...so look at your cam specs, and multiple by whatever rocker arm ratio you will be running. Don't forget to account for CLEARANCE as he describes in this video.


I'm sure you can poke around on YouTube and find other videos as well, using other methods.

 

Ok thanks everyone, one last question do you think tuning would be reasonably feasible with this cam. From what I can gather this cam is considered a slight upgrade for lt1 and engines.
