5w30 valvoline full synthetic with dexos 1 solid cam
Just bought 5w30 valvoline full synthetic with dexos 1 GM certified oil and a synthetic hi flow filter.
377 small block
Heafty solid cam running 6200rpm on street tires ran 13.0et at 109mph.
changing oil to above and running slicks next meet.
Anyone had any experience with this oil with flat tappet solid lifter mechanical cams.
Car is running for second time out and only got 55 miles on a full rebuild.
478hp 5800 and 468ft lbs tq at 4800.
engine runs free to 6200 at the strip with wheelspin 1/2 track

Also I like to use this https://www.redlineoil.com/engine-oil-break-in-additive with my regular Valvoline. Don't rem how exactly I came up with it and thought I had emailed Redline or Valvoline specifically to ask but can't find it. Anyways I use bout little over 4oz per 4.5 to 5qrt in my flat tappet cars. If you go off what it says on Redline's site that one bottle treats 12ish qrts, then 12/5=2.4, 16/2.4=6.66oz LOL

It's probably great oil for your climate in Australia for a stock late model mild hydraulic roller cam GM pickup truck.
Probably not the oil you want to be running in a built 377ci small block Chevy with a big flat tappet solid lift cam and the spring pressure required to keep the valvetrain under control at 6200 RPM. Probably a great oil if you want to be rebuilding your engine again soon because the cam and lifters got wiped out.
You should be running some sort of race oil with a higher ZDDP content than late model roller tappet street car oil designed for gas mileage and long catalytic convertor life. Talk to your engine builder about what weight high ZDDP race car oil your engine should be running. It's probably going to be something heavier than 5W30 street car oil. He built the engine and knows the clearances and oiling system he put in it.
Edit: You have a race car. Run race car oil in it. Don't run street car oil mixed with an ZDDP additive package in a bottle. Run a race car oil formulated from the ground up that already has the correct additive package in it.

Re: 5w30 valvoline full synthetic with dexos 1 solid cam
Just remembered how I got the 4oz ish of Redline additive
Click the OEM COMPATIBILITY tab and they give the amount range it increases per qrts and the amount for 4qrt(bit high) or 5qrt(bit low) puts it close enough to the 1400 Valvoline puts in their VR1
I've read/herd several times too much zinc/zddp is bad as well.
Far as your synthetic if you read the email, they say "in accordance with..." and we now know how zinc kills catalytic converters per the reason oil manufacturers were told to reduce it. So it's a good bet that your oil is the same amount-ish as regular ole plain Valvoline.
