Firebird 89 Problems
I have a 89 Firebird 305 v8 automatic TBI which I bough 6 years ago that I thought would be a "easy" project. I bought it from someone whom I know and I know that neither he or time has been all that great to the car but I got it cheap. The first problem that I encountered was the car cranking and turning but not starting, it would go around with some start gas but die instantly, got it down to the fuel pump being in horrible condition, the fuel hose had withered down and there was a bunch of gunk in the tank which has all been brought out. When I got it running it went "decently" but as soon as it was about to shift to third gear it was slipping. Brought the tranny down, rebuilt it, the clutches was also in horrible condition so that was the main issue with the tranny. We had to rebuild it around 4 times because of "small misses" and now the car is running decently.
Now to all the issues that I know off and would like to have some help with or guidance if i'm all out in the woods with my problems/solutions.
The first problem being that the car has a rough idle when cold. When I start it up the idle rpm goes from almost dying to ramping up above "normal" and it will continue to do so until it dies or get warm enough to stay at a normal rpm.
My solution to this would probably be to change all the vacuum hose, I have read alot about people having the same issue and I think most of the problems this car has would be solved just solely by this fix. I would also love it if someone has the wiring for the vacuum leads, I found some wirings on hear but I either couldn't access it or it was I could barely read it
The next problem is after the last tranny rebuild, while driving the car in "OD" the gears are slipping and the rpm gets really high until i let go of the gas and then it will gear up "without a problem". When driving in "D" the problem is still there, but I don't notice it as much.
My solution to this will be rewiring the TV cable, it got really stiff when wiring it after the last rebuild and I read somewhere that this might be the culprit.
I just want some guidance or confirmation if i'm on the right track or if more information needs to be provided or if someones been having the same issues, or in worst case scenario the tranny needs to be rebuilt once again.. thanks for reading and thanks for the help in advance!
