Hey there, I have been having a lot of trouble through this process.. Took it to a shop and got a 350 jasper block and shop gave the car back to me untuned and it ran terrible. So went through and got 350 injectors, Esc, 350 performance chip, and knock sensor. Still experienced issues and ran the same. So I guess what I am wondering is, where do I find someone to tune this thing, because it runs the best on the 305 chip but still feels like it bogs at certain rpm. And I wasn’t expecting this car to be super powerful by any means. It still has the choked up stock heads, manifold and all smog equipment but I can’t even get the tires to break lose.

 

Listening in, because I might do that swap.

 

Is the chip for the right ECM?. Do you have a performance cam? Lots of reasons it may not run right. A chip needs to be custom made for that particular engine. A "one size fits all performance chip" usually doesnt work out well with these TBI engines.

 

Okay thanks for the info! No performance cam just the cam the block came with, I think they use rv cams but I could be wrong, and yeah the chip I was thinking needs to be custom. I did get a chip from a 350 TBI caprice but that still didn’t communicate right with the computer. Where can I get a custom tuned chip because that seems to be the root of my problem? I know you need all the chip burning equipment and software just don’t know who can do it.
Also is there a specific serial number I need for the ESC or ECM?

 

You have to make sure the caprice chip was for the ...746 ECM. Some year ECMs werent the same for our cars. I have run the 350TBI Copcar chip on my engine and it ran ok.. You can try Tuned Performance and check with him, other than him some folks have used TBI Chips.com maybe?

 

Okay sounds good, let me get an order in on tuned performance and see if that works out, thanks for the info again, helps a lot when you can’t find a mechanic that knows something about these things haha
