Re: Questions

Not sure what you mean "bypass ignition" or "losing power" or "4 pin", but it sounds like you just want to hot-wire battery straight to the distributor. Which yes, you can absolutely do that.

Just make DAMN SURE you have a way to UN-hot-wire it INSTANTLY IMMEDIATELY WITHOUT HESITATION RESERVATION OR EQUIVOCATION from any location you might happen to be during the process. You don't want it to be like my late little brother's car that was kinda like that, and he went into a store with it that way running, and somehow (Frod with a 351 Cleveland w headers and FMX... shift linkage was VERY janky) it shifted into reverse and backed itself across a 4-lane highway with a deep ditch for a median and a used car lot on the far side... trashed ABUNCHA cars... woulda been humorous except that it was my little bro... I've also heard (never personally know) of someone that died when their car pinned them against a reinforced concrete wall, and I've known more than one whose car drove through their stick-built garage wall into their back 40.

Be safe.

Re: Questions

+12 volts IS wired to the coil. The distributor makes and breaks the negative side.
If you suspect faulty wiring in the positive side, then YES, you can do what you are proposing.
Just be cautious as SOFA has pointed out above.
