ignition coil trouble

I'm about to get a ride out to work to replace my ignition coil for the *2nd* time. What causes them to go out? My car is an 89 RS (2.8L) if it makes a difference. In both instances it was working fine, I get in, drive somewhere, park it. I get back in, chuggachuggachugga but no vroom. I got a coworker to help me with a line tester so I know that power is going into the coil, but isn't making it to the wire that goes to the distributor. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I don't really want to have to stock up on those things :P

Check to see if there is power going to the coil after you shut down the motor and remove the key, a bad ignition switch can cause this problem which burns up the coil, as well as leaving the key on the "ON" position with out running the motor, to listen to the radio can burn it up too.
