Hey guys I have an 86 camaro iroc TPI with a swapped 350 in it, automatic transmission, I tried following the instructions on setting the idle, but once I put the pins in the ALDL and wait 30 seconds and disconnect the IAC connector the car will not start. What am I doing wrong ? Is there a different procedure I should follow ?

 

Does it start if you give it a little bit of throttle? You may need to do that and help with the throttle until it can stabilize and idle on its own. Otherwise, maybe your minimum air is off and it can't start and idle.

The IAC (Idle Air Control) is used by the ECM (computer) to control the engine idle. It also acts as the fast-idle function, like a cold start choke on a carburetor, by allowing more air around the throttle plates for a fast idle for a cold engine.

 

I actually got it started by cracking the throttle 😂 not my brightest moment but I appreciate the info about it, I had no idea what it's function was
