Engine questions

I understand that 87 and later all F body V8s had roller lifters, can roller lifters/cam be put on a non roller block? I've also noticed some mods cannot be done to pre 87 engines, what's the difference in pre and post 87 engines?

Also, what are the disadvantages of a MAF TPI system as opposed to MAP. I've heard that MAF is easy to break and you can't do custom cold air intake with it. What else? Are the hard parts (plenum, runners, intake) the same on MAF and MAP systems?

You can put a roller cam in a non roller block, you just need retrofit roller rockets and a cam button so the cam doesn't jump around. Only other difference I know of is switching to center bolt heads.

MAF only flows like 550ish cfm stock, which can be raised with some work, but obviously not as high as a MAP engine without the MAF could potentially flow. MAF isn't really easy to break, but a lot of people misdiagnose problems and end up spending too much money repairing them. Superchargers are more difficult with the MAF. The hard parts are the same, besides the cold start injector change.. and the map plenum has an extra hole for the map sensor. Basically interchangeable.
