Why is it overheating?
Trying to figure out why my 1988 350 tpi is overheating.
started overheating as i was driving about 20 minutes. Now it is a 10/20 seconds
no leaks in hoses
coolant in radiator and reservoir
Pressure is there in Coolant hoses
fans are on
But within a few minutes of starting it, it is over heating
i replaced the thermostat and did not fix issue
risany advice would be greatly appreciated.

My first guess is the water pump is shot, even if it's not weeping. Take the thermostat out and start it up, see if you're getting any flow.

Define "overheating". People post that useless word all the time instead of telling us what the car is actually DOING.
We need to know things like spewing, gauge is off the scale, hoses burst, etc. etc. etc. What's REALLY going on instead of just the buzzword.
When you shot it with your infrared temp gun, what is the ACTUAL temperature?

Re: Why is it overheating?
What ^he said^. I have two additional questions:
Wwhen the car is "overheating" (or on it's way to what you're calling overheating) will the heater blow hot air?
Are you saying that the car initially overheated in ~20 minutes, but now overheats in 10-20 seconds? If so, that's pretty much an impossibility and it's something else like a bad gauge, short to ground or power, or sending unit.
