v6 fan relay

90 bird with a 3.1 v6. single fan. All the fan posts I can find are for v8 dual fans.
I want to put a toggle switch on to manually turn on the cooling fan.
Anyone done this on the v6 single fan car? Any help is appreciated.

Re: v6 fan relay

While I know absolutely nothing about the 6-cyl cars, besides the number of cylinders they have, the fan should work the same as a single-fan V8 car. (or most any other single-fan car of any type from any mfr with any # of cyls in its engine) It should have a fan switch mounted somewhere in the engine, probably one of the heads, which grounds its wire when it gets hot and wants the fan to come on, which then operates the relay. Add your toggle switch to that wire, such that it also grounds the wire when you think the fan should be on. That way, when you forget to turn it on, it will still work automatically, without burning up switches or that sort of thing.

Re: v6 fan relay

The single fan in the 3.1 V6 from 90-92 is controlled by the ECM, there is no fan switch at this engine. If you want to toggle it with a switch, I'd recommend to rewire the ECM control line to a fused circuit and toggle the fan relay ground with the switch.

Re: v6 fan relay

Goes to show you what I know about these cars w 6-cyls. The fact remains though: there's a wire that tells the relay to operate, and all you have to do is, hook your switch between that wire and ground, without disturbing anything else, to make the relay come on.

Re: v6 fan relay

Look at the relay cavity F should be a green/white wire. When grounded the relay activates.
