Hello All,
So I have a 92 RS 25th Anniversary Edition (148,XXX Miles, 305 V8, Manual Transmission, T-Tops) that was parked for roughly 5 years, and now that I have the means and want to get it going, I got a few quotes from some shops about reviving it, was told it'll cost roughly around $2500.00 - $3500.00 to get it going, said it would require a new battery, wires, plugs, coils, hoses, belts, water pump, thermostat, etc. due to some dry rotting going on. I am no Mechanic and just understand the basics, So my Question is if that sounds a bit too high of a price for parts and labor or is that accurate? I would like to dive in myself but I don't have the space or tools just yet to do anything myself at the moment.
i'd install new battery, see how much of the electrics are working, then check if the fuel pump still works-if it does(listen for the whirr in the tank)siphon out as much stale gas as practical, add about 5 gal fresh gas ,check oil ,and crank engine-will take a few turns to pump lifters back up.If engine does not start or try to start, pour about 1/2 cup of gas down TBI and see if it runs a few seconds Expect the injectors to be stuck and need freed up and if high humidity clutch disc could be stuck to flywheel/pressure plate from rust. Good luck
If it's a reputable shop getting about $100 hour, that what I would expect to pay.
well from my understanding it is and well known, they have 5 star reviews consistently which is why i considered taking it to them but the price just seemed pretty steep for that amount of work which is out of my experience and/or knowledge. So perhaps the price is right in that case, thank you for your feedback.
