Digital dash mph stays at zero

I took my 87 Trans am gta 5.7 to have the starter and oil pressure switch removed and replaced. I picked up the car and drove off and noticed the mph didn’t move stayed at zero and the service engine light came on. Has anyone had this issue and are they related? Thank you.

Vehicle Speed Sensor, it's on the side of the transmission towards the rear. It's tells the computer how fast you're going, and the speedometer needs it to work.
