83_TA: not running with ECM

Im not sure if this is an ECM or a Carb issue or something else.

I’m having trouble getting my 83 T/A running reliably. It will run if I unplug the distributor from the ECM. I let warm up and checked the base timing which is correct at 6 degress. I shut the car down and let it cool a bit then plugged in the distributor. When I tried to start it, it backfired through the carb and would not start. The carb is a fresh rebuild. The distro is new. I have tried a few modules. The ECM appears to be working. Although I think its flooded now. when I look down the vent hole, I see fuel which I don’t recall seeing before. I’ll let it sit and try again tomorrow.

One odd thing. At one point was able to get the car to running with the distro plugged in, although poorly, It would not go above 1500 RPM without sputtering and backfiring though the exhaust. Which i think was related to a vacuum leak that i addressed. I was trying to get WinALDL working, and I did get it working but when I plugged it in I noticed the car was running poorly. Now the car won’t run at all. Has anyone heard of WinALDL damaging ECMs?

This car does have all the emission, my goal is to restore it to stock.

Here’s the project

If anyone knowledgeable on 83 GM carb setup is looking for a challenge and wants to help, PM me. I’m working on restoring my 83 L69 T/A.
