Re: AN Fuel line sizing

I'm using -8an feed -6an return Ractronix PTFE hose and fittings, Y block -8an to both in/out of fuel rails, -6an back to tank. Dual Walbro 350 pumps in the tank.

Over build your system and you won't have to worry about it later if/when you decide to increase power levels. Lots of companies out there that make quality hose and fittings just make sure they match. I for one would never entertain the idea of using rubber braided hose when far superior PTFE braided hose is only a bit more

Minor update, order the parts from Aeromotive back in mid Dec. Bulkhead fittings were on backorder till mid Jan. so I canceled the order and got everything from Jegs who had everything in stock. This is just for the tank to bulkead for my fuel cell install. Going Aeromotive PFTE hose and fitting from cell to motor. Keeping it simple.

Re: AN Fuel line sizing

Jegs said everything was in stock when I placed the order. For some reason some stuff still hasn't shipped. Minor annoyance, just really want to get back to working on the project car.

I decided to stick with 8-AN for everything. No hardline, just use PTFE everywhere. Stuff is expensive, like $400 for 20', but it is what it is.
Project is in no rush. Excited to get the parts whenever they get here.

I'll be addressing the entirety of my fuel system as well and will be following your progress. No in tank pump (although that would be my preference) as I have a NIB SX Performance in-line pump (67 GPH at 45 PSI) and will rework all of the fuel lines accordingly. Although at my power levels (and carbureted) I'd be OK with -6, 3/8", I may choose to upsize. At least on the feed.

That said at $400 USD for 20', that's a 2nd mortgage in CDN dollars! I bend pipes and tubes all day, every day sometimes so I may go for hard lines. At least for the easy bits.
Still exploring the aluminium tubing option although I understand the perils.
I'll be watching with interest. Thanks.

Re: AN Fuel line sizing

I use to have an external pump, several actually, over the years.
Biggest draw back was the sound. They are loud. They also don't get the benefit of cooling from being immersed in fuel.
Those are the main reasons I decided for an in tank unit.

If I had access to hardline, I would probably be doing the same as you.

This is the 6th time I am building up this car, this is the final time. Been off the road for over 10 years.... I cut so many corners in the past. This build that all stops.
Going with 1 company for each "system".

Areomotive is in charge of the fuel from tank to LS3. Sucks that the fuel line is so expensive, but I am guessing there is a reason for it.
Buy once cry once, I guess.

Re: AN Fuel line sizing

I can relate to the noise aspect. I'm currently using a Holley Blue pump. That thing is LOUD. I'm hoping this inline unit is somewhat quieter.
I can also relate to being 10 years in the making. The last time I raced my heap was in 2015. Since then it's been a spiral of upgrades and destruction. I'm thinking now all the major issues have been addressed. Engine (shortblock anyway), transmission, converter. All new.
It's details like the fuel system, while not an immediate concern, is still something that should be done.
A functional cold air intake is on the short list too. I've had a cowl hood on the car since 2010 and have yet to seal it up properly.
