Engine Misfire Help
I have a 85 Camaro Iroc 5.0 TPI that I just got back on the road. The car sat for 10 plus years. When I got it, I replaced the following list of items.
Complete fuel system. New Tank with sending unit and Delphi FE0110 Fuel Pump.
New 19lb Delphi Injectors from SouthBay
New intake manifold gasket set. New vacuum lines.
New AC Delco Fuel Pressure Regulator
New AC Delco plugs R43TS Gapped at .035
New NGK Premium 8mm Plug Wires
New Distributor Cap and Rotor
New Ignition Module
New IAC
New EGR Valve
New Fuel Filter
Car is timed at 6 degrees BTDC to factory spec.
Issue is when it is at idle it seems to be running smooth, When I drive it, the more throttle I give and RPM's it feels like there is a miss or it is running rough. No lake of power just it is not smooth. Almost like a fluttering like it would be chocked up like an old carbureted car when it is cold. Can not figure it out but it is not running right.
Any suggestions ? No check engine light.
Pete

Re: Engine Misfire Help
Run a compression check to see if there is something like a burnt valve or head gasket blown between cylinders.

Re: Engine Misfire Help
Next thing to look at would be fuel pressure. Which in fact, sounds like what the problem REALLY is; if it was mine, I'd likely do this BEFORE fiddling around with compression and all that. Which of course is NOT to say "don't do that", or "that's not the problem", or "your compression is fine", or ANY such; NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT. Please, no keyboard warriors put any such words into my mouth (keyboard). Only, if it was a compression problem, it would show up ALL the time, not only under certain special circumstances. Compression doesn't change according to gas pedal position or duration of output.
Measure the fuel pressure WHILE IT'S IN THE ACT OF SCREWING UP. NOT sitting in the driveway idling happily; you want to see what it is WHILE IT'S IN THE ACT OF SCREWING UP. Doesn't matter how perfect it is while it's working right. Ya GOTTA see what it's doing WHILE IT'S IN THE ACT OF SCREWING UP.
That means, tape your FP gauge to your windshield with clear box tape or something, drive it around, and have your assistant take notes (or photos, or video, or WHATEVER) of what the gauge reads WHILE IT'S IN THE ACT OF SCREWING UP. Remember, gotta catch it WHILE IT'S IN THE ACT OF SCREWING UP. Nothing else matters.

Even after I put the new pump and sender in, my fuel gauge doesn’t work.
Maybe put the high pressure Walbro pump ?
I disassembled the entire fuel rail and cleaned it with new O rings.
Do I need a different pressure regulator?
I was going to use a computer program to record drive stats. Will it record fuel pressure though the OBD1 port or do I need a mechanical gauge ?

Re: Engine Misfire Help
Fuel Pressure looks fine. I pulled the tank to fix the gauge. The float was stuck because the sending unit allowed the float to stick past the bottom of the fuel pump and was hitting the back wall of the tank. I replaced the fuel sending unit with the Spectra Premium. The cheaper one I bought does not fit correctly. I will have to look through receipts to see which one it is. I also installed the Walbro High Pressure fuel pump. I also replaced the transmission mount that was bad and new U joints. Here is a video of the fuel pressure before the new pump.
Still doing the same as before.
