Battery positive mystery

Hi,

I'm looking to fab up a larger gauge alternator wire by modding the stock style positive battery/starter wire. Does anyone know the deal with the circled piece below? My assumption was that it's some kind of combination junction/fusible link, but couldn't find anything specific on it.

If it is a fusible, does anyone know if it's a big (100+) amperage for the alternator, or designed to be smaller for the fuel pump relay?

Re: Battery positive mystery

It's just a junction. Nothing "fusible" in it. The wire between the junction and the 1-pin connector that goes toward the ECM or FP or whatever in your car, MIGHT be; butt the junction (splice) is just a ... junction (splice).

Not sure whether either the short wire between that junction (splice) and the alt wire itself, the smaller one in the split-loom cover with the smaller ring terminal, is fusible or not. Reading the printing on all of them might help.

In our cars, I seriously doubt ANY of it is intended for "(100+) amperage". These ARE 80s cars, after all; there wasn't ANYTHING onboard ANY of them that would have required that. Would have been LAUGHABLE at any of the car mfrs back 40 yrs ago or whatever, to suggest any such. Not to mention, wasteful and unnecessarily expensive in exchange for ZERO benefit.
