Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

Hello, I’m trying to change my ignition lock cylinder. I’m to the point of removing the torx screw but there’s a little plastic switch looking thing blocking removal. Before I pry it and break it is there some trick to this?

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

That's the key buzzer contacts. If memory serves, it has a sort of tab on one side that catches on the casting, that holds it in there. It just pries out. Be gentle of course, butt there's no magic secret or anything.

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

As stated that is the contact for the key warning. The metal contacts you see touch the signal switch which contains the wiring. That plastic piece pulls out but there is a spring metal piece that comes out with it that holds tension to keep it in place. Pay attention to how it comes out, it will clip back on and slide right in when installing. When you look at the ignition cylinder you will see a plastic piece that pops out when the key is inserted, that is what pushes on those contacts.

Re: Ignition Lock Cylinder Replacement

It comes out easier if you leave the key out of the ignition. Its been a long time, but i remember they key was involved with making it easier or harder if it was in the lock cylinder.
