non-thirdgen, but second gen Trans Am... LOTS of questions!!!

Ok, I know of a white second gen TA thats been sitting for over a year by my house... I don't think it has moved but I could be wrong.

Anyway, I want to buy it... can someone give me specs on it... It is a pre-77 model... it has the blue bird on the hood..

the hood has a bulge in the center... I believe it's the hood that when you flip it up, there is a hole in the center, and a portion of it stays on the intake of the carb....

Anyone tell me what engine it has? HP specs? How much I should offer him? The body is -very- straight... but I don't know the condition of the drivetrain... assume best case senario how much do I offer? What kind of potential do these cars have?

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY HELP!!!

-Xeno

the hood you are talking about is the "shaker" its attacted to the air cleaner then to the carb, the back is open on it for a cowl induction and this is the air going to the carb. the engine will most likely be a 400 but its possible its a 455. best bet is to narrow it down by what year it is to find out, also on the shaker it will have the engine size on it, depending on year then can be from decent to powerhouses stock, they have all the pontential to haul *** tho, they will have a TH400 trans or muncie 4-speed with a 8.5 ten bolt or 12 bolt axle so they will handle anything you can give at them, and the t/a400's and 455's are great engines, here a link at the bottom of the page just click on the years and they will give you info and pics of every year 2nd gen http://www.iwaynet.net/~gl&lisk/1979ta.html

Well, I guess I didn't remember the car that well, I thought it had 2 headlights, but it has 4... so it's post 76... but the 2 sets of headlights are split, so that cuts out 77 and 78... so that means it's a 79-81 model... however it DOES have a shaker hood, therefore it's not a turbo 4.9

Looks like it's either the lethargic N/A 301, 305, or the Poncho 400 or the Olds 403...

Of the two big inch engines, which is better?

the 400 pontiac is the engine to get, look at the shaker, it will say "6.6 Litre" if its the 400 and "4.9 litre" if its the 301. if its a 79' then it will most likely have the 400, with a possiblity of the 301, if its a 80 or 81 it will have the 301 as 79' was the last year for the 400. the 403 olds and 305 chevy cars were only sent out to the emmisons controled areas like california, colorado and places like that so there fairly uncommon else where, but are sometimes around.
