Looks, like a lot of people are doing cam swaps lately. I'm no expert, but I'll get things started. Comp Exteme Energy cams seem to be the most popular. With a stock TC you don't want to go any higher than the XE268. It has a power range of 1600-5800. With the steep 1st gear of the 700R4, you'll reach 1600 rpms as soon as you hit the gas. Or if you want something a little less the XE262 is 1300-5600 rpm power range. Your stock TPI stops breathing at 4500rpms but you'll have those upper rpms for later. Again, I am no expert on this, but just wanted to get things started for you.

Thanks, I noticed you have that cam. Do you like it??? What did it give you??? Do you have before and after times? Would you happen to know how much for the cam package???

Thanks in advance, Jesse

u also have to think if u what kinda of power range u want to run in. plus anything ove 500 for lift is way to much for stock valve springs so then u need to replace those with higher lift ratings for springs. plus i was told it doesnt matter but for me i want my cam to match the power band of my intake as well. i did that to my el camino and it feels alot better than my camaro since i am not sure of the power band of the streetmaster intake. i am probly not making any sense but just my 2 cents. hey that rhymes

As said above, be sure to match the power band of the cam to the rest of your setup. Intake, headers, TC, gears, heads.

AS MARK SHIELDS SAYS, KNOW YOUR POWER BAND AND MATCH YOUR PARTS ACCORDINGLY. I AM USING A SMALL COMP CAM IN MY 400, AND I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE STOCK TORQUE CONVERTOR (3.27 GEARS) AND STOCK TPI (WITH LARGER INJECTORS). I STILL SHIFT AT THE FACTORY SHIFT POINTS OF 4500 WOT, 4200 AT ALMOST WOT. I HAVE PLENTY OF UMPH AT 1500 RPM. BESIDES, HOW MUCH TIME DOES YOU ENGINE SPEND AT 5000 TO 6000 WHEN YOU ARE ON THE STREET ?? I WANTED ALL THE GO DOWN AT 1500 TO 2500 WHERE I RUN ON THE STREET. JUST PUSH IT DOWN AND YOU ARE GONE. GOING WITH THE CAM I CHOSE, I WAS ABLE TO BUY A LESS EXPENSIVE HEAD, AND NO INTAKE MANIFOLD CHANGE AT ALL. SO THERE IS $1500 OR MORE I DID NOT HAVE TO SPEND. CHOOSE WELL AND HAPPY MOTORING ! !
