Is this a Prom, computer, or spark problem?
IM having a problem with my car that I cant seem to figure out.
I had the chip tuned on a dyno and looking at the graph at wot from about 2800 to 3500 the graph just disappears. It starts to act up at about 2300 kinda goes up and down instead of a smooth rise. But is totaly gone buy 2800, then comes back at 3500. its making 419.3 lbs when it comes back. It doesnt do it every time, but often, its right in the middle of my torque peak. The fuel curve is pretty much perfect so that rules that out.
The guy running the dyno thought it was something in the ignition because he said he gets his reading from spark by hooking a wire to the spark plug wire. So I replaced everything in the ignition system but, the shaft, and pole piece, gear, in the distributor. Tried disconnecting the msd the car ran worse without it. Everything that i replaced seemed to help but the problem is still there.
Ive also replaced some questionable wires around the distributor. Checked for 12 volts going to the distributor jiggled a few wires to see if there was any break in the connection, No change.
I did some WOT throttle captures with my Auto-xray and nothing looks out of spec. Ive replaced my coolant sensor, my TPS sensor.
The battery and fuel pump voltage is good under WOT. I dont see how the ECM could be bad if its sending all the right numbers thru the Auto-xray. The only thing that looked out of spec was the car stayed in open loop during wot. But learn control was disabled, so i dont know if thats anything to be conserned about.
Could it be something in the prom killing the spark to the motor? It has to be from the wire harness at the distributor back to the ECM. Ive checked the grounds at the back of the heads they all seem to be there.
I dont know what else to do except throw parts at the thing. Anyone have any ideas where i should go from here? IM running out of ideas.
