engine prob for ya

alrighty, my engine has been running fine lately except for today. it just started to sputter and die and idle or when i applied the brake. i didnt touch anything with the carb applying to the idling screws. it seems as though it aint getting gas. but the rings are really worn and is in need of an overhaul shortly but donthave the money to do it right anytime soon. could it be bad compression as in not enough. i heard sometimes if the compression is way to high or too low this would happen. blow by is bad on this one. thanx in advance

the only possible think i could think of checking is your fuel filter , and check your spark .
i donno if this helps, but atleast its something to check that MIGHT help , btw , u might aswell replace the fuel filter if u hadnt done so in a long time, when i got my car i still had my original filter in there , it ran a whole lot better after i replaced it .
just a thought

S-party,

The vacuum demand from the brake booster is causing the engine to stumble. Either the rings are so worn that the engine cannot maintain adequate vacuum at that RPM or the power brake booster is failing and leaking internally. What is the idle RPM?

I also think it could be a bad/worn booster.
Do you hear a swoosh of leaking air coming from the brake pushrod area when you step on the brake?
Is the car acting up mainly when you hit the brakes?
You can check this by plugging the vacuum line to the booster and see how your car reacts.
Warning: disconnecting the vacuum to the booster will cause hard braking; even harder than manual brakes.
