Hey guys, I was just wondering... can a stock L98 350 block be bored from 4.000 to 4.155? I was looking at AFR's website and ran into this interesting article...

Anyway, I was planning on making my L98 into a 383 but I was also wondering if the config in this article would also be possible? The block they used here is a 2 bolt 400 block bored to 4.155. They also used a carb on this motor. I'm planning on keeping my TPI setup. From what I read here, this engine would be a lot easier and cheaper to build. Think it's possible with our motors? What do you guys think of the article? Thanks.

this is an old issue from i believe it was car craft or hot rod. it was a 400 block they used with a crank made for it with the same stroke used in the 327's. the L98 block cannot be bored .155 over safely.

ok, i guess it'll have to be the 383 then... i'm pretty determined to use the original block. oh well, choices choices...

the 383 is a great choice for street fun. i would recomend reading the article closely though since it goes into great detail about rod legnth. it also shows what can be done with compression and it's efficiency even with lower octane fuels. it happens to be one of my favorite write up's.

Yep, I've driven around in my cousin's 383 GTA before. Amazing power... the only thing I'm hoping for now is that the stroker I build will pass NYC emissions inspection. It'd really suck to put in $5-$6k on a motor to find out the state won't let you drive it around the highways...
As long as you watch for the cam/carb/intake/ignition/compression combo's you will be ok.
Dpeneds though....if you want REAL power yet still want to look into keeping it legal, you are goin to have to invest in a DFI setup....big bucks!
