Need help having idle trouble.
Need help having idle trouble.
When I first start my car when it is cold everything is fine but once it gets warm and I am in stop and go traffic the car will idle really low and lose power and through a code 34 and it is really bugging me because I can't figure it out. The weird thing is right after I shut off the car and start it back up everything is fine. But after 5 or so minutes it will do the same thing. I have replaced the MAF but it didn't help. Anybody have anything similar to this happen to them? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
85,
Check the MAF module attached to the back of the ECM (under the passenger side dash panel). The 1985 MAF TPI system was different than the other years, and has a digital interface module for the MAF slaved to the ECM.
Check the intake air ducts and resonator box for leaks, splits, cracks (especially at the seams of the resonator box) and make sure the TPS voltage is adjusted correctly. Check all vacuum lines for leaks, and don't overlook the PCV system and power brake booster as possible vacuum leaks. Make sure you ar NOT using a breather-type oil filler cap, since the air being admitted there will not be measured by the MAF as it needs to be.
Of course, you checked the electrical connector at the MAF when you replaced it, correct?

u might want to check your sparkplug wires , mine did the same thing , now i dont know how warming up adds to this problem , but for some weird reason i did to mine , once i replaced them everything went back to normal.
also check if your wires are laying on some source of heat , ie. headers valve covers , EGR , etc. cuz that will kill them ,
just a few ideas.....

Yea I checked the wiring when I replaced the MAF and it check out ok. I also replaced the plugs and wires recently so I don't think that is the problem. I haven't yet checked for vacume leaks so that is going to be the next step. Thanks for the help.
