Heater Leak - Pool of fluid in passenger foot well

I've got a pretty steady stream of what appears to be engine coolant coming from the housing for the heater. It was still coming out even after the car was off, so I took of the radiator cap and that seemed to stop it. When I did that a large amount of fluid also boiled over into the overflow resevoir. My question is this: have I completely fried my heater core, does it need to be replaced/repaired, and if I had a defective radiator cap (not releasing excess pressure to the overflow) would that cause it? The cap I have on now says 15 pounds, is that right? Thanks, Joe

Yes, the heater core is shot, replace soon.

The rad cap will cause water to run into the overflow when you take the cap off when its hot. Thats usually a sign its working, I can't say i've ever seen a cap go bad and hold TOO MUCH pressure.

If its questionable, or old, just replace it anyway, they are cheap.
