Took a valve cover off of my '94 TBI Sonoma 4x4. Peeked down between some springs to see the lifters and couldn't see them. Something like a stamped strip of metal was over them and the pushrod disappears though a hole in this metal thing. Does this mean it has roller lifters or ...?
Also, there is a piece of cast 'something' in the valley. Would that be a counterbalance shaft? Did '94 TBIs have those? I stuck the dip stick in there and I can shove it over this thing or under it.

as i recall, they made them both in 1994. i can look it up for you but you likely have the roller cam with balance shaft engine.

'86 and later 4.3's had roller cams. I remember that the 4.3 got a roller cam before the Camarobirds did.

Zippy, I have not tried to find it yet, but if the casting number helps I can try to find it. You wouldn't by chance have access to the cam specs for this engine? I can't find them through the channels I use.

i wasn't so unsure about the roller cam issue as the balance shaft issue. 1994 should be balance shaft equipped and and course roller cammed. last time i looked up the cam spec's for them i only remember the lift numbers which were roughly .357 intake and .390 exhaust. the camshaft in these were very similar to the L03 camshaft as i recall. (of course shorter though.)
