#%$@... snapped a tube to a sensor.... which one?!

Guys-

I was in the engine today, cleaning it up etc...

I accidently snapped a black plastic tube that connects to some kind of sensor near the passangers side runners... It's a black sensor of some sort, here is a pic to show you where it is located:

The RED CIRCLE is where it is

What sensor is this?

I re-secured the tube with tape, but I think it's leaking slighty...

Can I still drive the car?

Will it throw a code?

My car is a 1990 IROC-Z TPI (305)

Thanks

-ONE

does it have heater hoses running into it? if so it is the heater control valve. if it has o2 tubes from the exhaust and or the smog pump it is the A.I.R. control valve. Maybe you could take a close up pic of it and post it so we could be positive

its OK, it is just the heater water bypass that keeps hot water from going to the heater during A/C operation (to blow cooler air) and I keep a supply of small diameter rubber vacuum line around to snip off little 3 inch or 4 inch pieces to use as patches rejoin the ends of this broken little brittle black line gm used all over the engine compartment of these vehicle I work on everyday. It works great even as a permanent patch. You should fix any vacuum leak right away or the O2 sensor will pick up on it and cause a mild rich condition (loss of power).

B4Ctom1-

Oh ok, yeah... I wasn't sure which sensor it was. I looked in my Haynes book and couldn't the hell find it....

Damn thing broke as soon moved it a little... I re-connected the ends, and taped it off... I fired it up, and used a chemical solvent to test for a leak (bubbles forming etc...) and didn't see anything... but I think there is a slight leak cuz when I turn the car off and put my ear to the tube, I hear a slight "hisssssss", so...

I took it for a test drive, and didn't notice any loss of power...

What would happen if I used A/C with this small leak?

I don't understand how you "patch" a broken tube... you mean like, rejoin the ends, and use silicon as a sealant or something?

Thanks for your help

you slip the ends of the plastic line into both ends of a smaller piece of rubber line as a patch or a splint.
