385 Vortec Stroker Almost Done
Hello, I havent posted in ages. I beg for forgiveness. :hail:
I have a couple of questions/opinions to ask.
I have been building a stroker engine for the past maybe 100 years. (funds are tight) :-)
I went with short rods(400 block) with the best arp bolts. A 268 Xtreme energy cam. 350 hyper pistons. Vortec heads, cleaned up a little by me. Victor JR. intake w/ 750 carb. Ill i need left is the intake and carb.
Do you guys think the rods will hold. I was going to use the stockers rod bolts but after alot of bashing and people slaping me around (mainly you guys), I got the arps.
Also what do you guys estimate the hp/tq will be on it. It will be a street car. Also ET.
Im also planing on using a small shot of nos say 75 shot, what do you think.
Also cam, choice should I go bigger. Im thinking of stalling at 2600 or 2700. He he im putting this behind a 700r4 stock tranny for now,
I hope It holds till I can get it beefeed up.
Its great to be back here in thirdgen. You guys got me from being a little know nothing to actually building engines, in 2 days. I have already done 3 (friends) stock 350 rebuilds. ITs MY ENGINE'S TURN NOW. Thank you guys for all the help.

Sure
Ask away, I thought that with the first engine I built as soon as I turned it over it was going to literally blow up. Its still running after 2 years.

The stock rods should be OK, as long as you keep the RPMs below 6200 or so. The bolts are the weak link and you've got that taken care of.
Since you won't be spinning the motor up tight enough to require a single-plane manifold, I would not recommend the Victor Jr. The rest of the engine simply doesn't need it and won't survive if operated where it makes a difference. The car will probably go faster with a Performer RPM or Air-Gap regardless.
IMHO you should not use those pistons with nitrous at all, unless you made the ring gap MUCH larger than you otherwise would have. I would say .030" minimum. You run a major risk of blowing the top ring land off the pistons from the rings expanding from heat, and their ends butting.
In any case, that motor should produce 450 HP easily, maybe a bit more. A 75 shot would hardly even be noticeable.

Make sure your system has the ability to to go up from 75. 75 may work for ya for a run or 2, but you'll want more.

Thank You guys for your replies. I might not use the NOS I just want to get around high 12s in the quarter mile, and be able to have enough torque on the streets to go completely sideways at will.
Should I go bigger on the cam. I know Chevy HP got 427 horpower with that cam and heads combo on a 350. The intake... I will do as you say and do an air gap intake. Do you think it will make a diff from a perf rpm. I know they used the JR intake on the 350 buildup and said they gained like 10hp and lost around 5lbs of torque "peak" but gained around 9lbs throughout the band. It never spinned past 6000rpms. Thats why I wanted the victors jrs ???? Hence my thinking i should go one step higher on cam. They said the cam was peaky on a 350 though??!!!?
What are you guy estimate on the quarter w/ drag radial and a 3.42 posi out back.
The nos im looking at is adjustable from 75 to 125shot. I got molly rings on it. Will the shot still do damage??!!??
Thank you guys again. I love hearing your replies. I love the critisms too.

Oh yeah by the way this engine might only kiss my predetermined ceeling of 6000rms TOPS.
For those 7000rpm runs I will one day build a 302 with a huge cam.
I heard one of those rev to 7000 while accelerating throught first gear. I almost had an accident in my pants. Sounds like a raped ferrari.
