Lets play the HP game!!
Start with a stock 87 LG4. (roughly 165hp)
Add a XE256H Cam.
Port the heads and add headders.
Add 3" plumbing from Y pipe to an 80 series Flowmaster.(no cat).
All Emissions delete.
Open element on top of a Q-Jet with better hangars.
Add a 1" carb spacer.
And lastly an MSD ignition.
How much HP is the LG4 pushing?

Ditch the open element and put something correct on there, such as a stock L69 setup, about 5 more HP.
You're going to have a tough time deleting "all emissions" with the stock computer controls. You can lose some of them, such as the AIR; but the various sensors and the computer-controlled carb and distributor will have to stay. With no AIR and a straight pipe as opposed to leaving the AIR on and using a good high-flow cat, you might gain 3 or 4 HP at most. It costs very little power.
