Posi Traction Question

HEY

I HEARD THAT U COULD ONLY GET THE POSI TRACTION IF U HAVE 4 WHEEL DISCS. I HAVE 4 WHEEL DISCS AND A 3.42 REAR AXLE. I LOOKED FOR THE POSI TRACTION CODE AND I DO NOT HAVE IT. DID GM NOT PUT THE CODE ON OR WHAT

I have drum brakes in the back and have POSI traction. I don't think it was just for 4 disc brake set-ups. If it is then I must have one rare car

Yeah, that's definitley not true about the 4 wheel disk brakes and posi. I've got drums and a posi.
About the RPO codes, I'm not sure if they have one for a posi. I do know they have one for the gear ratio though. I'm pretty sure that all Irocs originally came equipped with a posi. If you're not sure, you can check it pretty easy. Its a good idea anyway, in case someone has swapped out the rear, or the posi is blown. Anyway, jack up the rear of the car, and spin the drivers wheel foreward. If the passenger wheel spins backwards you don't have a posi. If it spins foreward then you do.

G80 = limited slip differential. The RPO code exists and should be present on the Service Parts Information label if the car had a 'posi' from the factory. LSDs were not limited to 4 wheel disc cars only...

Also, look for the limited slip additive metal tag attached to the diff cover by one of the bolts.

Cheers

I feel your pain ... Well I dont, personally, because my SC has drums and posi, so your source is wrong.

Dont let peg-leggin' stop you from doing those burnouts!

not all irocs were equipped with limited slip until 1990. as i recall, only the aluminum drum version wasn't available with it and the only one standard with it was the 5.7 car's. not having the g80 code though, you likely just plain don't have it unless someone put it in.
