Scraping front tires...
Scraping front tires...
I put some tires and rims on my bird a few months ago, and ever since then the front passenger side tire scrapes the wheel well when turning. It usually only happens when I'm backing up, but sometimes when making sharp turns. They were fine on the Camaro donor, and yes they are wider than stock. Also, when the car is parked and the tires are turned, they sit kind of lopsided... would this have anything to do with it?
Thanks for any help

Fade,
The camber will always change when the wheels are turned (why they are "lopsided"). If you study the differences in the centerline of the lower ball joint compared to the upper stut mount (the two pivot points for steering) and the way the steering knuckle is attached to them, you'll see why the camber has to change. That is all designed in, so the camber changes to take best advantage of the tire contact patch when cornering.
As for the interference with your wheels, the best thing is to probably get under there an look while someone turns the wheels (preferrably NOT while the car is moving). The slight camber differences and center of the steering gearbox might be contributing to the interference. It's most likely that the ride heights of the two cars is different, allowing for less clearance.

If they are factory 16" wheels, the fronts are on the front like they are supposed to be, and you have brand new 245/50/16's, I'm not surprised. Its pretty common for the front wheels to rub, they did it brand new. Some are better than others, I think mostly due to alignment of the engine cradle/k-member. My 85 rubbed on the left, my 86 rubs on the right. My friends 85 rubbed on both sides, another friends 87 rubbed on the right. 3 of those did it since brand new right off the showroom floor. Maybe with a little tweaking you can fix it, but I wouldnt worry too much if its minor rubbing.

I see why I hang around here - I learned something today. Mine has never done that, and it has all the WS6 stuff from right off the line in Van Nuys - 6ZX springs, PW7 wheels, QDZ tires, yada, yada.
That WOULD be just my luck - mine never gets "rubbed" enough any more...

Mine rubs on both sides with the 245/50R16's. Tires from different manufacturers will have different overall hight and width for the same advertized size. The original Goodyears were pretty short compared to some of the other tires out there, like the Futura's that are on my car now. I'm just waiting for them to rub holes in my inner fender panels.

Vader, yea I learn things all the time here too. I'd put money that my 85 sat lower than my 86, dont know why... both had the same options except the 85 had different front seats. The 85 I bought from the original owner, he told me the tires always rubbed. EDIT: Just remembered, I bought that car with the original tires
, I replaced them with the same, it did rub. My 86 looks like its been a normal occurence as well. It wont do it with worn tires though
Usually they rub on the back side of the plastic wheelwell, when the wheels are turned full lock to say the right it rubs the right wheel.
The Goodyears rubbed on some cars too. I remember my friends car did it, he was so happy to point out all its flaws and problems. I remember it had like 5000 miles on it, and after a somewhat hard drive, the tranny would **** fluid all over the place
