Resonator Box Removal????

I have an '87 GTA with a 5.7. Is there a aftermarket "elbow" that would replace the resonator box and provide a direct feed from the MAF to the Plenum? I am thinking of making my own and wondering if this is a good idea. I'm thinking along the lines of a cold air intake system. Any ideas or feedback on this?
