Oil pressure, bypass?
Does anybody know on a 350 what pressure does the oil start to bypass the filter? I am running about 60psi and am wondering if any of that damn oil is going through the filter thanks.
Tim,
The oil pressure bypass valve in the block or filter adapter is set to open at a 10 PSIG DIFFERENTIAL pressure. That means that if the pressure ahead of the filter is more than 10 pound greater than the pressure after the filter, the bypass will allow oil to flow around the filter. If your engine is in good condition and the clearances are acceptable, the pressure drop across the filter should be less than 10 PSIG as long as the filter is not saturated with particles. Incidentally, depending on where your oil pressure sensor is installed, the pressure reading from the dash gauge is AFTER the oil filter anyway.
