HELP! Tranny Mounts

Hey guys I need help. My rear tranny mount is busted, at least I think it is. Its the mount right above the cross member. I went to Advanced Auto and Napa and they both dont have the part I need. Its liquid filled and they dont have a clue of where I can get it. Its a V-6 2.8 5 speed. For Firebirds and Camaros for 89 the mount that comes up is just a solid mount with no liquid that isnt even close to the part. Any help?

dear bro.
i've never seen such a thing as a tranny support liquid filled, and those for the v6 are real weak, if you get the support for the V8 it will fit exactly the same and will last long. it should be a solid block of rubber with a stud sticking on one side and a base plate with 2 holes (that's the side that goes attached to the tranny.)
if you need help, feel free to e-mail me.
Fernando.

Alright I tried to get the tranny mount from the 8 and put it in but its the same thing. I have no clue. I think my car is made in Canada, could that make a difference? Because the mount from the 8 fits onto the tranny but not to the crossmember. And the mount that I have thats busted has a part that connects to the tranny thats almost like the normal tranny mount, then has a rubber cylinder part in between that and its filled with liquid and that connects to a part that has 3 holes in it for some reason and that connects to the crossmember. All my bolts are metric too, so could my car be made in Canada and be that different? Any help will do guys.

If it is filled with liquid then you have a tranny leak or something!!!

99% of third gen F-bods were made in Van Nuns(sp) Canada, so that is not a problem. Very little on your car will NOT be metric.

Here is a pic of what your trannymount should look like. The V8 and the V6 had the same tranny mounts as far as I know. If the mount wont fit use a hammer!! or a jack on the tranny. Really

EDIT--BTW the one on the left is broke the one on the right is an energy suspension tranny mount.

No, neither of those look like mine. Hmm Im starting to wonder. Mines round, its not square. Is it a tranny mount? It connects the transmission to the crossmemeber. Im holding it right here, Im positive its not whats in those pictures. Its not aftermarket either. Is a transmission mount 2 piece? The bolt pattern is different on the crossmember and the standard tranny mount wont fit it.

dear bro.
i live in montreal, and the camaros (like mine) made in ste-therese (few miles away from home) and third gens are millimetric, on the picture above as our good friend told you, there is an example of a broken mount and the energy one, personally that's what i have and it's awesome. the energy is based on inch system and i had to work a little bit the holes, nothing more. on the x-member enlongate the hole (center) until the new bolt that came with the mount (yellow=cadmium plated) fits, and the 2 on the base plate that goes attached to the tranny should fit also but you'll have to use the original tranny bolts (different threads). remember, it's only matter of very little difference, if the holes are way out of alignment, then you got the wrong part (it can happen especially if, as you said the guys at the parts shop are lost in the space)

Ok Ive figured it out. It IS a tranny mount but in 89 a few of the Firebirds came with liquid filled. I had to contact a dealer to find out what the part really is and he said that its a tranny mount. The only bad thing is the part is $240 which is crazy for a tranny mount so I'll take a crossmember off of a different f-body and use that one with a regular mount instead. Thanks anyways guys

haha, yeah good luck trying to find them. I called every junkyard in Southern CT and I cant find one tranny mount like that. Has anyone else ever run into a liquid filled tranny mount like this? Theres a few other dealer-only parts on the car to. If I ever smash my car beyond repair I'll give you some of the parts Val so you can make your gold.

This has definitely come up a few times in the past. I don't feel like search for the fun of it, but i'm sure it's been covered before about the V6s having this piece.
No matter, you came to the right conclusion anyway. You simply need a normal crossmember to use the normal mount. I don;t think anyone has a reason for the liquid filled V6 piece, but at least you know you aren't crazy for identifying it.
