I have an 83 cc qjet lg4 TA which has this very bad smoking problem. The smoke smells very rich (like gas) but is not exactly blue and not black. It is worst on fast idle (2200 rpm), but exists at idle as well. It was suggested raw fuel might be leaking through the plugs at the bottom of the carb so I rebuilt the carb and used epoxy (jbweld) on all the plugs (5 of them). I set the TPS, float level, idle mixture and idle air beed with a dwell meter, set base timing with a light, changed the spark plugs, installed a heated 02 sensor. Same problem. Then it was suggested that I may have oil leaking past the valve seals and that was causing my smoke (that I just may be mis diagnosing my color and smell of smoke), so I changed those (intake and exhaust). While I had the covers off, I notices that my 110000 lg4 had black sludge and crap in the heads, so after I changed the seals, I changed the oil and filter with 3qrts of 20 weight and 2 quarts of tranny fluid and ran it for 40 minutes at low rpm. Then I switched to Mobil 1 with ac delco filter. Now my car smoked terribly for the first few minutes at high idle (2200 rpm), but when the it dropped to regular idle (700 rpm) the smoke lessened, but my cat was glowing red hot and black sooty chunks were shooting out my exhaust. After 20 minutes of running, I increased the idle to 1000 rpm (just to experiment a little). There is NO smoke what so ever and the cat doesn't glow. I had thought my rings may be bad (causing all this smoke which my neighbors are eventually going to call the EPA on me), but if my rings were bad, wouldn't it smoke all the time at any rpm? What is going on? Basically at 700 rpm or 2200 it still smokes, smells like gas, has a very very faint bluish tint and is completely driving me crazy!.
