code trouble I think.....

I just tried the self diagnostic on my car using the check engine light. I ran a jumper wire from the 6th pin to the 5th pin as I think im supposed to and turned the switch on. The check engine light just kept flashing the code 12 over and over. Does that mean my computers screwed or I just arent throwing any codes? I also ran the jumper wire from the 6th to the 10th and turned the switch on then the INFL REST light came on then started blinking codes....I GUESS 12, 13, and 26 is that light supposed to blink? I know I shouldnt have been just touching different pins on my diag port but whats up with that? I heard that If your car keeps flashing 12 that your computers screwed...but it runs fine I just wanted to see if it was throwin anything at me. Really confused....please help!! oh by the way....90 model RS TBI

V8powr,

If you jumped the 'A' and 'B' terminals on the ALDL connector, the scan should be correct.

A code '12' indicates no distributor reference pulses. This should be correct, since the engine isn't running.

If I understand you correctly, you also connected the S.I.R. diagnostic request to the ECM ground. This will reveal any SIR codes, but these vary greatly over the first years of SIR production.

For general engine parameters, the 'B' terminal should be grounded to the 'A' terminal. All '12's indicates no problems detected.

thanks for clearing the air....

well, I guess its good to know that my internals are good at least according to my computer. My infl rest light does always stay on thus the reaon for it giving me codes on that from theo SIR diag port. Is there any place that you or anyone else knows of that I can find a codes site on the net for the SIR? Thanks again!
