Harmonic Balancer Shot?

Found this while I was swapping the water pump. Balancer is up against timing chain cover. I assume this is not the natural state of things. What's a good replacement? Please reply promptly!! Engine is an LB9 (305TPI)

*** damn Chev balancer STRIKES AGAIN!

Yea man you are right. That is not how the balancer is supposed to look like.

Just go to GM and get yourself a new one.

Carefull what you buy at the car parts store. We replaced a HB on an 85 Z-28, the guy at the store swore up and downm that it is a direct fit. Well, it fit but we had to get a spacer ring so the pulleys would line up.

An aftermarket balancer can free up horsepower, if that works into your budjet. Ironic that a failed balancer can create vibration itself.

Summit sells a decent replacement, I used one on my 85, when I had the same problem.

Thanks, guys!
Ordered the StreetDampr from Summit. Even with Overnite shipping, cheaper than the dealer. Saved enough for one of those snazzy Milidon timing chain covers
