OK I rebiult my engin last year and just about a month ago it the RMPs started to jump around between 8 and 1200 while it idles and it flucuates that much while driving, so I put on a new cap and rotor, fuel filter, and plug wires. When I pulled the plugs it looked like the engine was running lean however it smells like it runs rich doe!!!!! I checked the fuel pressure it is steady at 42 psi. Is there any way to check the coil output? any other suggestions?

I have a 305 TPI

 

Check for vacuum leaks. Double check vacuum hose routing. Very common reason for a floaty idle
