Air Intake Sensor Question
Air Intake Sensor Question
I want to take my air box that holds my air filter and replace all of that with a K&N cone filter (I'm pretty much am making a backyard intake
). Well.......there is a clip that clips into my air box. The clip is a temerature readout that reads the temperature of the air coming in the car (I was told this from a friend of the family's that use to work on GM's). I asked him then if I could leave the clip unclipped and he said he didn't know that the check engine light might come on. Well i got bored this morning so I decided to unclip the clip and see what happens. Well... the Check Engine light did not come on. I was wondering if anybody knew if by leaveing this unclipped would it screw the car up? If anyone knows please let me know. Thanx!!!

Maņana,
Welcome Aboard!
If what you disconected was in fact the IAT/MAT sensor, you may not set a code, but may have some difficulty with cold starts. If anything, you would tend to be a little rich on cold starts when the engine coolant still has a little heat. It probably isn't a big problem, but you may want to consider routing some colder air tot he intake rather than allowing it to suck the hot air from under the hood.
