Melted floor mats

A friend of mine is having problems with her car. I have posted a couple of weeks ago but i have some new interesting info. When cruising down the highway about 3000 rpm the floor mats start getting really hot. I mean sticking to your shoes hot. The car is a 84 monte carlo with a 350 full length headers and a holley carb. It has 9.5-1 compresion and 2.02 1.6 heads with a mild 214 dur. .450 lift cam. The first thing that made us wounder what was wrong was that the cranking compresion was only 130 psi. We know the copresion is right, 76 cc heads with domed pistons. The performance is rather lacklust too it only runs 6.8 seconds 0-60. I am running 5.8 with a very similiar setup. Then the extremely hot header thing has started giving her problems. This sounds like a retarded cam to me. It was installed strait up so what gives?
What do you guys think?

would the timing affect the cranking compression? My motor cranks around 170 psi with the same static compresion.

Retarded valve timing will lower the cranking compression, just as a longer duration cam profile or more overlap will do.

A Monte is not a very heavy body either, so your results should be similar, all else being equal.
