I plan on upgrading my TPI big time (throttle body, port plenum, big runners, base, bigger heads, LT4 HOT cam) on my 355. I know it's kinda dumb, but I was wondering if my car will sound more powerful too, or if it will be louder or more throaty and idle and WOT. Thanks.

Depends on how much exhaust flows, its velocity, and what it is going through. It will be louder.

An L69 with factory cat and both tailpipes sounds a lot better at rpm than an LG4 with gutted cat & one tailpipe missing (everything else the same)

so horsepower? How about cam & compression. Those'll change the sound.

i just put a hot cam in my l98, it's not really lumpy sounding but it's more of a 'growl' sound i guess. oh and it's loud too, i think the car came with a flowmaster muffler.
