Radiator is leaking...
Radiator is leaking...
Came home from work tonight...
I began dusting off the car and cleaning the rims when I noticed coolant near my front wheel... I looked under the car, and sure enough, it was dripping in 2 places directly underneath the radiator...
Checked the hoses as best I could, but couldn't find the actual leak.. and being an 11 year old radiator, I think it's just the whole unit...
So, I'm probably lookin at a whole new radiator (perfect gawd damn timing, cuz I was gonna order my headers this weekend
)...
Any ideas on how much this will run me?
My dad estimated $250+

That was a brand new unit which i got a local rad shop to build.
I wouldn't expect a new rad to be that expensive for you.
Depending on how bad the leak is, you may not have to replace it. The radiator I put in mine about a year ago started leaking a few weeks ago. I tried to find my reciepts to see if it was still under warrenty, but couldn't. So, as a last resort, I tried some Bar's Stop Leak (from a bottle). I had never used it, and was skeptical, but figured for the price, I'd give it a shot. I hated to do it, but it worked just fine. No leaks anymore. If you do want to replace it though, you can do it for less than $200 for sure. Good luck.
Told ya I didn't want to do it. In all honesty, it can do what it wants to in my engine. That'll get me moving on the rebuild sitting in my shop. But really, does anybody have any true bad experiences with it? Anyways, it is just another option.

You have a cracked tank on the drivers side probably.
Look at the upper radiator hose nipple to se if it has a crack
around where it is formed into the tank and also the other side
of the tank where the hot water would hit as it enters the
radiator.
I install new tanks on radiators for $75 as a carry in. A shop in
your are should not be too far from that price I wouldn't think.

Cool, thanks guys!
Sounds like it'll be cheaper than I originally thought... which is good!
Hopefully the shop will determine what needs to be done (ie hoses, or whole unit), and I can just get it fixed and not worry about it anymore.. I hate repair work..

If you check out www.1800radiators.com you can get a replacement radiator for like $130. They sold me a 3 row radiator for the same price as a single row and it didn't have those crappy plastic side tanks.
