LO3 won't idle down

I just installed an AC delete pulley and had to put a dummy load on the "AC sense" wire (I'm guessing here, but it is the wire that goes into the back of the compressor not the top) and the car ran fine and idled down fine. My normal idle was 750rpm. Yesterday I had to change out the A.I.R. pump and now the car is idling at 1600rpm, even after warm up. I drove the car for almost an hour today and it was still idling high when I got home. I have double checked all the wire and hoses, any other ideas. I'm not getting any service engine light and just in case it matters, the car is a 5spd.

Don't think anything with what you did could have caused it. A vacuum leak will make it idle fast though. Check all the lines. Also TBs seem to have a problem suckin a hole in the base gasket. It's usually in the RF corner but could be anywhere. Spray a little carb cleaner around the base and see if the idle changes. Hope this helps

In my experiences, the TB base gasket is the culprit 99% of the time when it comes to a high idle condition in a TBI application.

thanks guys. I guess now I have a reason/excuse to go ahead and do the free TBI mods since I have to take it off anyway to check the base gasket.

You did not say if you disconnected the battery or not.
I had the same problem on my 85 idling at around 1500rpm
I don,t no the name of the wire it,s a brown wire and it,s on the passenger side above the heater fan.As soon as i disconnected this wire and left it disconnected for about 30 seconds then reconnected it the car was fine.In park the car idles on about 950rpm and in gear it sits at 750rpm.I,m no expert but it worked for me.

Ahhh.... See good in bad...... I like ....

But you can check that gasket for potential leaks or cracks with the method described above by spraying carb cleaner or brake clean around the base of the TB and listening for a change in the idle.
