My Fuel Pump??? Ingntion Cylinder Switch???
My Fuel Pump??? Ingntion Cylinder Switch???
I have a 91 camaro z28 305 tpi bone stock. I started having an intermitent problem where the car would bog and not rev over 2,000 and go over 10mph even with the pedal floored. Became an everytime problem. Also my keys would get stuck in the ignition cylinder and i could not kill engine. Also some gauges , not all, are constantly pegged and e-brake light always on. Brought to mechanic and he said needs new fule pump and ignition cylinder switch. gave quote of $500-600+ . pickedup car with no repair done. got prices for both parts for around $100. Now, if i replace my fuel pump should that solve th bogging problem? according to my Hayes manual, it seems my fuel pump is engine mounted, however i see a lot of intank pumps being talked about on this forum. also if i replace the ignition cylinder swtich (wich i know is broken, keys stuck in it) would that also fix my gauges being pegged. dont see how they are related unless something is blown.
any and all help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. need to get it fixed as i still owe $5,500 on the car! (no coments on that please, i get enough from friends!

RF,
Before you go any farther, repair the ignition lock cylinder and switch. They are two separate components - the lock cylinder is in the upper steering column bowl and the ignition switch is attached to the lower part of the outer column jacket. The lock cylinder is connected to the switch via a linkage rod.
Repairing the ignition switch may solve all your problems - fuel pump included, and should be done first to make sure it is reliable. It may just be an adjustment at the switch, but if the key is "getting stuck", your lock cylinder may have some problems too.

well here is my question. i may be confusing the part names. The silver in color cylinder that the key phyisically goes into is what the key is stuck in. my steering wheel is off, and i took out the cylinder. it has an orange wire running from it to a connector coming from under the dash. i dont see where the second part you are reffering to is. Not trying to sound like a dope, i am just confused. also could you explain why fixing that could also fix why my engie is running bad? not a whole lot of experience in a cars elecric system, so wanna learn as much as i can. again, thanks for the help!
ok new info on the subject. i completely forgot the mechanic told me this, but my friend reminded me. he mentioned he thinks the engine not runing smooth could also be due to vapor lock. recomended getting a new gas cover. so i know i need a new gas cover and cylinder lock, hopefully that will be all!
