Real quick: Which coil should I use?...
Real quick: Which coil should I use?...
Hey all its coming to that time for tune up (lol how many times have I said that), but its so friggin cold here in North Jersey. No snow, just cold, pisses me off, I want warmth!!!
Ne way... I was looking into coils, and I was thinking either just getting an AC Delco coil, which I could get for free, cuz I have connections. Or get an MSD coil, from MSD, not free, no connections there. See the problem is that at night, with lights off, I look on the coil, and theres a constant blue spark jumping, always! So which one should I use, hows the reliability of these and such, any help thanks!!!
These are what I want to get for tune up:
>Cap and Rotor: MSD
>Oil Filter: Delco
>Fuel Filter: Delco
>Wires: MSD 8.5 SC
>Coil: MSD
>Plugs: Delco RapidFires
Whatchas think of the above choices, any suggestions? Thanks a bunch.

Which MSD coil
Which msd coil are you using? There is a blaster 2 (which I think is only for use with MSD ignitions) and there is a Blaster GM coil that is supposed to be a direct bolton replacment. I bought the blaster gm coil and was going to put it on this weekend along with a msd rotor and cap, msd wires (8mm, the 8.5mm were too expensive) and NGK plugs. Please help!

You can hook in any of the two-wire MSD (or etc) coils to our four-wire remote HEI's. If you buy MSD's wiring harness for "direct hookup of MSD 6-series box to GM remote HEI", you get the exact connector, and don't need a 6-series box.
If you don't want to drop $20 for the connector, you can modify your engine's wiring harness to take the two-wire connector.
Pink&black (gray connector) to pink&black (black connector) to coil's positive.
Black&white (gray connector) to black (black connector) to coil's negative. This is also where you'd hook in a tach.
I had an "Accel remote HEI computerized supercoil" for a while, and it worked well, no problems. It came with a direct plug-in harness to convert the GM 2-connector remote HEI into two wires. (It was a dual harness, with GM on one end, and Ford TFI on the other- you cut off the connector you don't use).
Now I run an "MSD Blaster SS" coil. The only reason I switched was because I bought an MSD 6AL box, and felt like being brand loyal.
Both coils were a total bitch to mount... I had to make brackets for each of them. I just like the idea of keeping my old coil on the car, in case I ever get stuck on the side of the road, I can plug my old coil back in (I have the MSD plug-in harness now, too) to eliminate a bad ignition system problem.
